Hi there, Koko here.
Today I’d like to show how I organized my kitchen cabinet.
First, I tell you!
This is not a Instagram-quality cabinet. Maybe your cabinet looks better, I am not surprised!
But my point is, we don’t have to be sparkling shiney perfect like Instagram – but comfortably cleaned / organized!
I just went through a easy-simple organization of my kitchen cabinet, I used the boxes and items that I had at home. No, I didn’t print out fancy labels or containers just for it.
If you are okay with “lazy-easiness” then this post is for you 😉
I did this organization with some simple logic, I’d like to share my idea…
Before- what was I thinking? Picture
Are you ready for the messy picture? here it goes. I’m embarrassed.
I had no idea what food items I had. It was hard to reach. Hard to know. Hard…everything. 😞
I know I had to do something about it.
like, Big time.
How to organize a kitchen cabinet Easy
Step 1. Empty the cabinet
Get everything out of the cabinet, even small piece of papers, every-thing.
Step 2. Go through “the stuff “!
First, for sure, food items that are expired – Toss! No mercy there, if it’s old, say Sayonara.
Some stuff will last longer and taste okay still after expiration, if you really don’t want to throw away – promise yourself to use it within a week – or something! Set a time limit. After the time limit has come, toss. Otherwise you can never get rid of your food.
In my opinion, if you’re done with this Step 1 – you’re almost succeeded with Kitchen organization!
Step 3. Organize by height
If you live alone, you can skip to Step 4 😋
…but if you live with someone, think who’s the tallest in your household.
The tallest person’s stuff goes to the highest shelf.
In my family, it’s my husband as he’s 6″1. His tea, coffee stuff goes to the top shelf.
Think, who can reach where.
Step 4. Organize by Category
I have some Japanese food items, our son’s snack items, and some cooking equipments.
Organize by category. (KonMari says so too!)
So in my case, I organized by persons. My husband / My son / My area.
I am Japanese, so I cook Japanese food all the time. But these Japanese food items in a box, are the ones that I use the most.
I like to bake, so I placed the baking category box within a easy reach.
My Kitchen Organize Idea
I’d like to share some of my Kitchen Organize Ideas.
1. Best way to use Big Glass Jars
I bought this Big Glass Jar – with an intention to have a fish as a pet for my son, because I thought it’d look very cute and he’ll enjoy having a mini pet.
But we changed our plan, so, now I had this big glass jar doing nothing…it was just sitting.
You know what I noticed?
Glass Jar, is best to store something ‘big’ and /or ” packed item” .
Never powder – because it’s tricky to get all out from the heavy glass jar.
I thought of putting flour or oats, but then, you will need to take it out, open the lid, scoop up… the jar will be super heavy because it’s originally made with glass. Plus you can’t really use it up – there will be some left over on the bottom.
So I decided to store Kinder Surprise Eggs! (for now – but in the future it maybe change to some other snacks.) We are using the jar as my son’s treats box.
After eggs are gone, I will probably store my son’s snacks – something individually packed snacks.
2. Use a Bookstand
Some containers are thin and tall (like yes, coffee filters ).
I used a bookstand, which worked fairy good!
Benefits of Organizing Kitchen Cabinet
After I went through this, I’ve realized those benefits!
1. You save money
What do you mean?? You may ask. I mean… if your kitchen cabinet is organized, be able to see everything…. you won’t buy same things double. or quadruple!
See? We had 4 coffee-tea filters. Wtf. This is the problem because we couldn’t see what we had before. We kept buying stuff that wasn’t necessary! Waste of money.
2. You save time
My cabinet is organized and decluttered.
I can reach to anything I want, no more “digging”, “searching”, waste of time!
3. Easy Clean
Less items means less cleaning. If I need to clean, just remove only a few stuff – no big deal.
4. You just feel good
Looking at something organized, has the same effect of aromatherapy. Joking. but, it’s almost like that feeling, you know?
You just want to open the cabinet doors again and again again….. because it looks good, makes you feel good!! 😃
5. Your partner feels good, too!
Tell you it’s not only you 😁 I’m 100% sure your partner is happy about it, too!
I hope this post inspires you. Again…. I am not a pro-organizer, nor kick-ass interior designer.
But a normal person like me could do some decent job I think, that means you can do it too!
